OUR MISSION

Since 1995, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman and the Mitzvah project have been dedicated to improving the lives of the Ukrainian people. Their efforts are focused on educating the younger generation, caring for the elderly and vulnerable, and fostering a warm and safe community.

EVOLVING SITUATION

With the onset of the 2022 war, the conditions of our mission have changed, but its essence remains the same. Through collective efforts, over 40,000 people have been evacuated, and shelters for internally displaced persons have been established, providing medical assistance, food, and clean water.

Today, the situation in Ukraine remains challenging. Millions have been forced to leave their homes, and many lack access to basic resources, including clean water, food, and electricity. Special attention is given to the approaching winter, as 40% of Ukraine’s infrastructure has been destroyed, leaving millions without heating and electricity.

The Ukrainian Jewish community, estimated at around 100,000 people, faces unique challenges, such as the lack of access to kosher food and Jewish rituals. In addition to general humanitarian aid, the Mitzvah project supports these crucial Jewish community institutions.

HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS

The organization tirelessly strives to ensure continuous access to food, water, and medical care, while being prepared for new emergencies. In Kherson, the Mitzvah project demonstrated its readiness to respond quickly to crises. Efforts are directed towards providing communities with generators, water filtration systems, medical supplies, security support, free dining halls, and emergency housing.

INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT

Ensuring the welfare of Ukrainians depends not only on organizing aid but also on strengthening international support for Ukraine. The Mitzvah project actively sponsors delegations to Israel and the United States to unite international Jewish support and combat Russian propaganda.

ABOUT RABBI MOSHE ASMAN

Rabbi Moshe Asman was born in Leningrad in 1966 and was an active participant in the refusenik movement. In 1987, he emigrated to Israel, where he received rabbinical ordination and helped Russian-Jewish immigrants. In 1995, Rabbi Asman moved to Kyiv and founded a synagogue, reviving the city’s Jewish community.

Rabbi Asman was at the forefront of supporting East Ukrainian war refugees and organized the evacuation of the wounded during the Donbas war in 2014. He also founded the village of Anatevka near Kyiv, which became a refuge for displaced families.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

For his merits, Rabbi Moshe Asman has received numerous awards, including the Badge of Honor from the Mayor of Kyiv. His work and dedication make him an exceptional patriot of Ukraine and a symbol of hope for thousands.

The “Mitzvah for Ukraine” project, under the leadership of Rabbi Asman, continues to bring light and support to the Ukrainian people, despite all difficulties and challenges.
