Senior Lieutenant Uriel Mashiah, commander of the “Golani” Battalion’s “Tzabar” company in the Givati Brigade, provides an exclusive perspective on the ongoing combat operations in Rafah: “We are engaged in very intense fighting in the Shabura neighborhood. The city of Rafah is completely evacuated of civilians, and the only ones we see are Hamas militants.”

Status of Hamas Military Wing in Gaza

According to IDF assessments, the Hamas military wing has suffered significant losses during nine months of combat operations. A large portion of Hamas battalions has been destroyed by Israeli forces, impacting Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s stance on ceasefire negotiations and the return of hostages.

Combat Operations in Rafah

In Rafah, the IDF continues to dismantle Hamas infrastructure. Soldiers from the Givati Brigade, alongside tank units, engineering teams, and Nahal forces, have been conducting operations in this area for several months. Senior Lieutenant Uriel Mashiah describes the situation: “We have complete control of the territory, and the enemy is finding it difficult to conduct operations. We encounter groups of militants acting independently, tired and exhausted. Some surrender upon initial contact, while others engage in suicidal attacks.”

IDF’s Objective: Return of Hostages

Senior Lieutenant Mashiah and his Givati troops have been involved in combat since October 7th: “Every fighter understands the importance of our mission – to bring the hostages home. This task is a burning priority for each of us. We will continue until we achieve our goal, no matter how long it takes.”

Hamas Tactics and IDF Response

Mashiah also discusses Hamas tactics: “They have learned to react to IDF actions and attempt to booby-trap buildings. But we study the enemy meticulously, analyze every combat operation, and constantly refine our methods to ensure the safety of our soldiers.”

Combat operations in Rafah continue with high intensity. The IDF is actively working to dismantle Hamas military infrastructure and secure the return of Israeli hostages. According to Golani Battalion’s Commander Uriel Mashiah, the morale and dedication of Israeli soldiers remain high despite the challenging combat conditions.
