Borrell Calls for Immediate Strengthening of Ukraine’s Air Defense

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell accused Russia of “ruthlessly targeting Ukrainian civilians” after Monday’s massive Russian strikes that killed and injured dozens in Ukraine, including at a children’s hospital in Kyiv, AFP reports.

“Russia continues to ruthlessly target Ukrainian civilians. Today’s airstrikes have killed and injured dozens of people and destroyed the largest children’s hospital in Kyiv, Okhmatdyt. Ukraine needs air defense now. All those responsible for Russia’s war crimes will be held accountable,” Josep Borrell wrote in a post on X.

On Monday morning, Russia launched one of the largest missile attacks on Ukraine to date, with Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih being the most affected cities. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russians launched over 40 missiles. At least 30 people were killed and over 50 were injured. The massive missile attack also destroyed a major children’s hospital in Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities announced, while dramatic footage of the strike’s aftermath appeared on social media.
