German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the decision to deploy American long-range Tomahawk missiles in the country. This was reported by the Reuters agency on Thursday, July 11. According to Sholtz, this decision “has been in preparation for a long time” and “didn’t come as a surprise to everyone involved in security policy.”

During the NATO summit in Washington, it became known that the United States and Germany agreed on the deployment of Tomahawk missiles in order to strengthen the deterrence and protection of NATO partners. These cruise missiles have a flight range of up to 2,500 kilometers and are capable of hitting ground targets with high accuracy.

“This decision fits perfectly into the security strategy of the German government,” said Scholz, emphasizing the importance of such a step in the face of modern challenges.

Tomahawk missiles have already proven themselves during operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, where they were used to attack important targets. Now they will become part of Germany’s defense strategy, increasing the level of defense not only of the country, but also of the entire region.

According to Reuters, the US plan to deploy Tomahawk missiles in Germany has caused mixed reactions. Some experts have compared the move to a return to the Cold War, expressing fears of escalating tensions in Europe.
