Yuvev Katz: A Tribute to His Legacy and Dedication

August 17, 2024 — Radio host and songwriter Yuvev Katz, whose music impacted generations of listeners, passed away this morning at the age of 88. He died at his home in Kibbutz Tel-Izhak after a long battle with health issues. Katz left a profound mark on Israeli culture through his songs and radio programs that shaped the cultural landscape of the 1960s and 1970s.

Katz, the author of such anthems as “Kingdoms of Hermon,” “My Daughter Is Crying or Laughing,” and “Sigel,” not only created popular music but also served as a respected radio host on Kol Israel for many years. His songs gained popularity and the love of listeners, and his radio programs became an important part of the country’s cultural life.

Memory and Legacy

“My father was a wonderful, loving, and caring parent who was always there,” said his daughter Shlomit in an interview with Ynet. “His radio programs and the field of radio psychotherapy were his life’s work. He was a great artist with a deep love for people.”

Yuvev Katz was born in February 1936 in Kibbutz Na’an. After serving in the army and actively participating in cultural life, he began his career in radio as a producer, editor, and host on Kol Israel. His radio programs, such as “Beer and Mood” and “Been Shishi Shabbat,” gained significant popularity.

Katz’s Legacy

Katz also actively engaged in theater and satire, leading humor and satire groups and working in community theater. His involvement in the Six-Day War as a jeep patrol commander and his songwriting left an indelible mark on Israeli history.

In his later years, Yuvev Katz focused on teaching and mediation, continuing to have a significant influence on cultural life. His work and contributions to radio and music will live on through his enduring legacy.
