Starting on August 26, drivers crossing the border between Ukraine and Poland via the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint should brace for significant delays. The cause of this disruption is extensive road repair work, affecting two lanes on the Polish side. This information was confirmed by the State Customs Service of Ukraine (SCSU) on Sunday, August 25.
According to Polish authorities, the repairs will commence at 9:00 AM and are expected to continue until mid-October. The situation is expected to particularly slow down the exit of freight transport and buses from Ukraine, as the number of operational lanes will be greatly reduced.
These changes will slow down the border crossing process, potentially affecting logistics companies and passengers. Longer queues and extended waiting times are anticipated.
This news is especially critical for international transport companies that regularly operate through this checkpoint, as delays could disrupt delivery schedules. Passenger buses will also face longer travel times, which could inconvenience both tourists and business travelers.
The SCSU urges drivers to plan their routes in advance, considering potential delays, and to stay informed about the latest developments on official customs service channels and transportation company websites.
Updates on the progress of the repairs, as well as possible alternative routes, will be provided regularly to minimize inconvenience for travelers and transporters.
According to Polish officials, the road repairs are scheduled to be completed by mid-October, after which traffic at the border crossing is expected to return to normal.
