August 30, 2024 — The TimeUkraineIsrael portal previously reported on the escalation of the conflict between Elon Musk and the judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil, Alexander de Moraes. Musk stepped up his attacks on de Moraes, threatening to shut down social media platform X in the country.

According to CNN, Musk called de Moraes an “evil dictator” and accused him of trying to limit freedom of speech through court orders. Judge de Moraes requires Musk to appoint a new legal representative for X in Brazil and pay unpaid fines within 24 hours. In case of non-compliance, he threatens to suspend the operation of the platform in the country. In response, Musk accused the judge of abuse of power and said that his team would soon publish documents confirming the judge’s “illegal demands.”

Brazil is a key market for X, with around 40 million Brazilians using the platform at least once a month. The conflict between Musk and de Moraes escalated after X announced its intention to close its Brazil office due to a judge’s “censorship orders,” which include blocking accounts that the judge believes are spreading misinformation.
