The Israeli national team defeated Ukraine 3:1 in the first world group of the Davis Cup. The match took place on September 14 in Cyprus without spectators due to security concerns. Despite ongoing conflicts in both countries, the competition was held in an atmosphere of sporting camaraderie.This was reported by the portal vesty.co.il

The first two matches were won by the Israelis. Yshai Oliel defeated Ukraine’s Oleksandr Ovcharenko 0:6, 6:4, 6:4, while Daniel Cukierman comfortably beat Vitaliy Sachko 6:2, 6:2.

In the doubles match, Daniel Cukierman and Roy Stepanov played against Oleksii Krutykh and Illia Beloborodko. The Israeli pair lost 5:7, 6:7 (7:9), narrowing the overall score to 2:1.

The decisive moment came in the fourth match when Yshai Oliel faced Oleksii Kravetich, who replaced the unwell Vitaliy Sachko. After a tense contest, Oliel secured victory with a score of 2:6, 6:3, 6:7. The Ukrainian player missed a match point at 5:1 in the final set and ultimately lost.

This victory allows Israel to participate in the Davis Cup qualifiers, which will take place in 2025.
