Kremlin Calls Ukraine’s Invitation of ICRC and UN to Kursk Region a Provocation

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov labeled Ukraine’s invitation of representatives from the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to visit areas of Russia’s Kursk region, currently controlled by Ukrainian forces, as a “provocation.” This was reported by Ukrainska Pravda.

“We hope that such provocative statements will not be taken seriously by their intended recipients. This is a pure provocation,” Peskov stated.

The statement follows Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ September 16 appeal to the UN and ICRC to assist with humanitarian response measures in the Kursk region of Russia, now under Ukrainian military control.

On September 12, Russian forces shelled the village of Verolyubivka in the Donetsk region, killing three ICRC workers and wounding two others. A truck carrying humanitarian aid and a car were destroyed. The ICRC reported that the team was preparing to distribute firewood and fuel briquettes north of Donetsk when their vehicles were hit by shelling.
