As of the morning of September 20, Kyiv is experiencing a temporary decline in air quality. According to the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), elevated levels of particulate matter (dust) have been recorded. The likely cause of this deterioration is wildfires in the Kyiv region’s ecosystem, particularly in the Vyshhorod district, as reported by the Kyiv Oblast Emergency Services.
Residents are advised to:
- close windows,
- limit time spent outdoors,
- drink plenty of water,
- use air purifiers if possible.
This is not the first instance of air quality decline in Kyiv. On September 6, a similar situation occurred, with unpleasant odors caused by wildfires, including peatland fires covering 3.74 hectares in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region.
