Ambulances as an instrument of terrorism: Hezbollah’s medical corps

In recent days, the international community has focused on how terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah use medical facilities as a cover for their military operations. The parallels with Hamas’ actions are obvious: both groups accuse each other of attacks on medical facilities, while ignoring the facts of cooperation with terrorists, the Israeli newspaper Ynet reports.

Civilian cover for terrorist activities

According to information provided by the Israeli media outlet Ynet, Hezbollah is actively using ambulances to transport terrorists and weapons. An IDF spokesman recently warned: “Any vehicle proven to be carrying an armed militant will be attacked – regardless of the type of vehicle.” This demonstrates the serious threats posed by the use of medical supplies for military purposes.

Lebanese sources report significant damage to hospitals and medical teams due to Israeli strikes, but do not address how medical facilities are used to support Hezbollah’s terrorist activities. Studies show that Hezbollah, like Hamas, actively exploits civilian infrastructure for its military purposes.

The relationship between medical institutions and terrorism

It is noteworthy that the Islamic Health Authority, which is part of Hezbollah, provides medical services but also serves as a cover for terrorist activities. The organisation was established in 1984 and has since expanded its functions to include educational programmes and medical projects that actually support Hezbollah’s activities.

Recently, 11 medical workers have been reported killed in Israeli attacks, particularly in the Marj Aion and Skara regions. The Lebanese Minister of Health noted that since the beginning of the war, 97 medical workers have been killed and 188 injured. It is important to emphasise that these losses occur against the backdrop of terrorists’ constant use of medical facilities.

Use of medical machines

This aspect of the use of civilian objects, including ambulances, has caused outrage among the Israeli military. Colonel Avihai Adrai noted: “We are seeing an increase in the use of ambulances by Hezbollah terrorists to transport terrorists and weapons.” He called on medical teams to avoid cooperation with terrorist organisations.

The situation in Lebanon thus reflects the complex interplay between terrorism and healthcare facilities. The use of ambulances as tools for terrorist activities poses serious ethical and security challenges. These issues must be addressed to avoid further casualties and ensure the safety of civilians.
