Israel launches new operation against Hamas in Jabaliya

On the night of 6 October, the Israeli Defence Forces(IDF) launched a large-scale ground operation in Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip. This decision was a response to recent intelligence that confirmed the presence of Hamas militants and their infrastructure in the area.

The IDF announced that the operation is aimed at “systematically destroying terrorist infrastructure” and will last as long as necessary to achieve its goals. The military statement emphasises that Hamas is trying to re-establish itself in Jabaliya, which is a matter of serious concern.

The operation involved the 162nd Division, including the 401st and 460th Armoured Brigades, which surrounded the city at night. The Israeli military also carried out a series of air and artillery strikes on Hamas-related targets, including weapons depots, tunnels and militant gathering places.

This new escalation of the conflict underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and Israel’s commitment to countering the threats posed by terrorist groups. At the same time, the local population is once again under the threat of violence, and the international community is closely monitoring developments.
