Five days after Iran’s attack on Israeli territory, discussions on possible responses continue. Senior Israeli officials are expressing outrage at the delay in responding, stressing that the country has had ample time to prepare. According to Maariv, their position is based on the assumption that an immediate response could have significantly reduced the likelihood of further escalations.
General Michael Kurilla, head of the US Central Command, arrived in Israel yesterday. His visit marked an important milestone in the ongoing negotiations, where Israeli officials stated: “We are in close contact with the Americans, but the final decisions remain with us.”
Critics of the delayed response point out that, unlike before, when the Iranian attack was unexpected, this time Iran made its intentions clear. “We had enough time to prepare. A quicker response could have given us more room for manoeuvre and international support,” they said.
However, some officials note that the Israeli authorities are taking into account numerous important factors when formulating their response. They warn that haste could damage not only security but also diplomatic relations and the country’s economy.
