France honours victims of Hamas attack: Foreign Minister attends ceremony in Israel

Міністр закордонних справ Франції Жан-Ноель Барро

Minister for Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Noël Barrot

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot visited the southern Israeli city of Re’im on Monday morning to take part in a ceremony commemorating the victims of the Hamas terrorist attack that took place a year ago, AFP reports.

According to the programme, Barrot first met with his Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz, before travelling to Ramallah, the administrative centre of the Palestinian Authority. During his stay in Rehima, he planned to address the families of the victims, including the French killed on 7 October.

As a reminder, on 7 October 2023, Hamas units invading from the Gaza Strip used explosives and bulldozers to break through the barrier surrounding the Palestinian territory. As a result of the terrorist attack, civilians were killed in kibbutzim, military bases and at the Nova festival in Re’im.

The attack led to the deaths, hostage-taking and disappearance of dozens of foreigners. France is one of the countries most affected by this tragedy, along with the United States and Thailand.
