Today, the Carpathian region has suffered a heavy loss: outstanding People’s Artist of Ukraine Bohdan Stashkiv was killed in a terrible road accident. The tragedy occurred in the neighbouring Zakarpattia region, where our countryman died suddenly, and his wife is now fighting for her life in the hands of doctors. This was reported by Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration.
Bohdan Stashkiv was born in Rohatyn and worked for a long time in Tysmenytsia, where he headed the culture department. His bright creativity has been recognised not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. The artist toured Europe, Canada and the United States of America, promoting Ukrainian song and culture.
In the early 2000s, Stashkiv founded the children’s competition and festival Zakhid-XXI Century, which became an important event for young talents. He was actively engaged in research in the field of art and culture, and also showed himself in charitable activities. His good deeds include the construction of the Saviour’s Chapel in Tysmenytsia and assistance in the restoration and construction of churches in the Carpathian region.
Bohdan also organised charity concerts for military personnel, sick children and people with disabilities, always striving to support those in need.
At this difficult time, I express my deepest condolences to the family of Bohdan Stashkiv, as well as to all those who loved and appreciated his work. May his songs remain in our hearts and memories. Eternal and blessed memory to the outstanding artist!
