In a horrific incident that took place in the town of Kakhovka, Kherson region, Russian occupiers tortured 45-year-old local resident Volodymyr Zakabluk to death. This information was made public by the Centre for Investigative Journalism, citing the testimony of the victim’s friends and acquaintances.

Details of the crime

Volodymyr Zakabluk, born on 5 March 1979, was detained by the Russian invaders. According to sources, the man was severely tortured, which led to severe injuries that resulted in his death in early October 2024.

Life and work of Volodymyr Zakabluk

Volodymyr worked for the local branch of JSC Cargill LLC, which owns an oil extraction plant in Kakhovka. Prior to that, from 2004 to 2008, he was registered as an individual entrepreneur, providing transport and intermediary services in specialised trade. His death caused outrage among local residents and highlighted the seriousness of the situation in the region.

The bloody consequences of Russian aggression

This tragic incident became part of a larger problem of the ruthlessness of the Russian occupiers, who have been committing atrocities against the civilian population of Ukraine with impunity for several years.

Other horrific incidents can be mentioned:

  • February 2024: Russian invaders tortured to death 59-year-old Stepan Podolchak, rector of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in the village of Kalanchak, Skadovsk district.
  • November 2023: Ruslan Rusnak, 28, from the village of Hornostaivka, Kakhovka district, became a victim of torture.
  • January 2023: 34-year-old Serhiy Fedorenko from Nova Kakhovka died in the Kakhovka Central City Hospital, also from torture by the occupiers.
  • November 2022: A father and son, Anatoliy and Oleksandr Prokopchuk, were found tortured near Nova Kakhovka, where Anatoliy was a deacon of the local Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith.

These tragic events demonstrate the serious human rights violations that continue in Ukraine during the Russian aggression. They require urgent international attention and action to end the impunity of the occupiers and protect civilians.
