Israeli citizen Dmitry (Demian) Karlik, who was sentenced to six life terms for murder in Israel, has expressed a desire to be deported to Russia. Karlik, a former special forces officer with dual citizenship, claims that he wants to fight against Ukraine to “atone for his guilt”. According to cursorinfo, this became known after representatives of the Investigative Committee of Russia arrived to present him with new charges of murder ordered by the owner of a nightclub in St. Petersburg in 2000.

Karlik, who immediately pleaded guilty, stated that he intended to return to his homeland to take part in the war against Ukraine, as this was the only way for him to “redeem his guilt”. He had previously been a member of a criminal group in Russia, but repatriated to Israel, where he was convicted of a number of other crimes.

According to Israeli sources, Karlik is cooperating with the Russian investigation and hopes that his participation in the investigation will convince the Russian authorities to seek his extradition. However, Israeli law enforcement officials do not support this possibility and oppose his deportation, despite the efforts of Russian authorities.
