Terrorists’ plans and ideological motivation

On 10 October, the Israeli police, together with the Shabak, prevented a large-scale terrorist attack by five Israeli Arabs. The group planned to blow up the Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv with a car bomb. The terrorists were guided by the ideology of the Islamic State, which was the basis of their motivation for attacking their own country. This was reported by Vesty.

Creation of a terrorist group

According to the investigation, the conspiracy was led by Mahmud Azzam and Ibrahim Sheikh Yusef, who created a terrorist cell in Taipei. They recruited three accomplices – Sajd Masaurwe, Abdullah Baransi and Abed al-Karim Baransi. All five watched videos of terrorist attacks in Syria and discussed the amount of explosives needed to destroy the Azrieli Towers.

Contacts with terrorists abroad

The investigation established that the criminals were in contact with terrorist groups abroad and planned to flee from Israel to regions controlled by the Islamic State. However, thanks to the coordinated work of the Israeli police and the Shabak, the terrorists’ plans were thwarted.

Increased terrorist threat

The police stressed that this was a particularly dangerous group that aimed to destroy its own state and its citizens. All suspects will be charged in the coming days.

Increase in the number of terrorist attacks

In recent days, terrorist attacks committed by Israeli Arabs have become more frequent in Israel. On 9 October, a resident of Umm al-Fahm carried out a terrorist attack in Hadera, and on 6 October, a resident of a Bedouin settlement in the Negev organised an explosion at the bus station in Beersheba. This indicates a dangerous trend of growing radicalism among Israeli Arabs.
