According to the press service of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Russian special services are preparing a large-scale campaign aimed at discrediting military-technical cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey. According to the information received, a series of disinformation materials are planned to be published in mid-October via the Russia Today propaganda channel.

Disinformation strategy

The disinformation campaign planned by Russian special services includes statements about the alleged secret arms trade between Ukraine and Turkey. In particular, the propagandists will accuse the Ukrainian Minister of Defence of arranging arms supplies to Turkey without the knowledge of the United States. They will claim that the weapons are transported using aircraft that, while delivering military equipment from Turkey to Ukraine, allegedly carry decommissioned and trophy weapons on the return flight.

Campaign goal

The main goal of this disinformation campaign is to discredit Ukraine’s military and political leadership. Russian intelligence services are trying to destroy trust between Ukraine and its allies by making them distrust the Ukrainian government. In the context of the ongoing war, such actions could significantly undermine international support for Ukraine, which is critical to countering Russian aggression.

In an information war, it is extremely important not to succumb to manipulation and disinformation. A proper response from Ukrainian and international institutions to such statements can help preserve the country’s reputation on the global stage and support military and technical cooperation with Turkey. Responsibility for the information front lies with each of us – don’t let the enemy mislead you.
