Slovenia closes the branch of the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov in Koper

Slovenia has decided to close the branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), which was opened in the city of Koper in 2017. This was reported by the state-run RIA Novosti news agency with reference to the Meduza media outlet.

The rector of Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy, said that he had received an official notification of the closure from the management of Primorsky University, where the branch was based. Sadovnichy also stressed that the decision was not initiated by the university or the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

The reasons for the closure of the branch were not officially disclosed. In 2017, the Slovenian government approved the partnership between the University of Primorska and Moscow State University, which led to the opening of this educational representative office, the first and only one in Europe.

The University of Primorska reported that 500,000 euros had been allocated for the establishment of the branch. Initially, the cooperation focused on economics and finance, with the prospect of expanding the curriculum to include mathematics, biology, philology, political science and tourism.
