Liam Payne, former member of One Direction
Liam Payne, a British singer and former member of the popular boy band One Direction, tragically died in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, after falling from the third floor of a hotel, Reuters reports, citing local media. The singer was 31 years old.
According to the Argentine media outlets La Nacion and Clarin, police were called to a hotel in a prestigious area of Palermo after reports of an “aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol”. Doctors who arrived at the scene confirmed the death of the singer, whose body was found on the hotel’s terrace.
The path to fame in One Direction
Liam Payne gained worldwide fame as a member of the pop band One Direction, formed in 2010 during the seventh season of the British TV show X Factor. The group, which also included Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, came third in the competition but quickly gained international fame. In 2016, One Direction broke up and its members began their solo careers.
Fighting addiction
In 2023, Payne spoke openly about his struggle with addiction and treatment in a rehabilitation clinic. A few days before the tragedy, he attended a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan in Buenos Aires.
On the morning of the tragedy, Payne shared a video on Snapchat about his trip to Argentina, talking about horseback riding, polo and how he was looking forward to returning home to see his dog. “It’s a beautiful day here in Argentina,” he said in the video.
Payne’s tragic death came as a shock to his many fans and colleagues, leaving a deep mark on the music world.
