Switzerland will provide Ukraine with three heavy vehicles for mechanised demining manufactured by Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) by the end of 2024, with a total value of more than EUR 3 million. This was announced by Swiss President Viola Amherd during the Second Annual Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC-2024) in Lausanne. This was reported by Interfax.
“This year, we will provide three more GCS-200 vehicles, as well as training and support in the field. This will enable Ukraine to conduct effective and safe demining operations on its own in the future,” Amherd said.
According to Dmytro Salymonov, General Manager of GCS Ukraine, the cost of each machine for mechanised demining of large areas is about €1 million. As of early October, 54 such machines were already operating in Ukraine, and by the middle of next year their number could reach 100 or more.
