Armed attack near the Dead Sea

This morning, 18 October, two armed terrorists dressed in IDF uniforms infiltrated Israel from Jordan. The incident took place near the moshav Neot HaKirar, south of the Dead Sea. This was reported by Vesty.

Civilian injuries and neutralisation of attackers

The attackers opened fire on the civilians, causing two Israelis to sustain moderate injuries. According to the ambulance service, the victims were promptly hospitalised and their lives are not in danger. IDF troops arrived at the scene and quickly neutralised the attackers after a short firefight. The soldiers are combing the area to prevent other saboteurs from entering.

IDF response and precautions

The army said that border patrols detected a violation of the state border and sent forces to detain the terrorists. However, the attackers managed to open fire before the patrol arrived. The incident took place three kilometres from the moshav. Residents of the border settlements were warned about the border violation and asked to stay at home until further notice.

Deterioration of the situation on the border with Jordan

For many years, the border with Jordan was considered one of the safest. However, on 8 September, a Jordanian opened fire at the Allenby checkpoint, killing three people. This incident drew the military’s attention to the need to strengthen the border due to the growing threat of weapons smuggling into Judea and Samaria.

Plans to strengthen the border

In the coming days, the Israeli military will present a plan to strengthen the border with Jordan to senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and Defence to ensure funding and implementation of the measures.

Increased security for the period of Sukkot

Against the backdrop of the latest wave of terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 12 people, Israeli security forces have increased their level of preparedness, particularly for the Sukkot holiday. Particular attention is being paid to security in cities, on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and in the regions of Judea and Samaria.
