On Friday, the leaders of the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their “determination” to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression to achieve a “just and lasting peace”. This is stated in a joint statement issued after a meeting in Berlin, AFP reports.

President Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Kier Starmer pledged to continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to secure peace based on international law, including the UN Charter, and respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Biden condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “despicable attack” on Ukraine, which has lasted for more than two and a half years. He also stressed that NATO remains “stronger and more united than ever” and that the alliance cannot “slacken its efforts” as it faces a “very difficult winter”.

The meeting took place during Joe Biden’s visit to Germany, which focused on supporting Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Germany, which is Kyiv’s second-largest arms supplier after the US, has reduced its budget for aid to Ukraine to €4 billion for 2025.
