In the evening of 19 October, the city of Zaporizhzhia was attacked by Russian occupiers. The explosions caused by the dropping of guided aerial bombs in the city centre injured at least three people. This was reported by the informator.ua news portal.

The shelling and its consequences

The head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov, confirmed in his telegram channel that the Russian army had struck twice in the central part of Zaporizhzhia. The explosions not only damaged residential and administrative buildings, but also injured people. As of 19:00, at least three injured people were reported to be in need of medical assistance.

Nighttime attacks on energy infrastructure

Overnight, from 18 to 19 October, Russian forces also attacked Ukraine, launching more than 100 drones and missiles. Ukraine’s armed forces, thanks to their air defences, were able to destroy 4 of the 6 missiles and over 40 drones. However, the debris from the downed drones caused damage in the capital Kyiv, where one woman was injured.

In addition, the infrastructure in Sumy and Chernihiv regions was also affected, resulting in emergency power cuts. According to preliminary information, at least one death was reported in these regions. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported that in Shostka, a rescue unit was attacked, resulting in five people being injured.

The attacks on Zaporizhzhia and other regions of Ukraine once again confirm the threat posed by Russian troops to the civilian population. Efforts are ongoing to eliminate the consequences of the attacks and provide assistance to the victims. The Ukrainian army continues to fight to defend its country and its citizens.
