On 21 October 2024, at 9:15 a.m., Zaporizhzhia once again became a target of Russian aggression. An enemy missile strike on the residential sector led to the partial destruction of a two-storey kindergarten building, which was a tragic confirmation of the unceremonious war waged by Russia against Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
As of 10:30 a.m., four people were reported injured, two of whom were removed from the rubble by rescuers. All of the victims were immediately hospitalised and the number of injured remains unclear as rescue operations continue. The explosion also caused a fire in two metal garages.
The blast wave damaged nearby cars and caused significant damage to private homes. A total of 42 rescuers and 10 vehicles of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are involved in the response to the attack.
Unfortunately, there was information about three deaths as a result of this terrible incident: two men aged 44 and 42 died on the spot, and a woman aged 44 died in hospital. Ten people remain in medical facilities, five of whom are in moderate condition and two in serious condition. The information about the casualties and the extent of the damage was confirmed by the head of Zaporizhzhia regional administration Ivan Fedorov.
This tragedy once again underscores the price paid by Ukrainian civilians as a result of the war. Our people continue to stand the test, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience. Emergency services and rescuers are doing everything possible to support the victims and eliminate the consequences of the aggression.
Zaporizhzhia, like the rest of Ukraine, needs our support. We must remember the victims and help each other in this difficult time. Together we will survive!
