On Sunday morning, a truck drove into a group of people at a bus stop near an Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) base in the Glilot area of the central part of the country. The truck driver who caused the incident was shot dead on the spot, police said, according to The Times of Israel.
According to preliminary information, the bus had stopped to disembark passengers when the truck suddenly crashed into the bus stop, where people were standing. According to Israeli rescuers, 35 people were injured in the incident, six of whom are in serious condition, five in moderate condition, the rest were slightly injured, and four suffered from acute anxiety.
Many of the victims were elderly people who had gotten off the bus to visit a nearby museum, local media reported. Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv reported that one of the victims was in critical condition and was undergoing surgery.
The police are continuing their investigation to establish the motive of the incident, which may be a terrorist attack, and the circumstances in which it occurred.
