During a meeting with Prime Minister of Iceland Bjarni Benediktsson, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed investment in Ukrainian defence production and support for the country on its path to NATO. This was reported by the President’s website.
Zelenskyy thanked Iceland and all the Nordic countries for their support from the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion. “We protect our lives, our homes, our children every day. But this would not have been possible without your strong support… We are very grateful, but today we must be even stronger to stop Putin,” Zelenskyy said.
The President also spoke about Ukraine’s achievements in the production of unmanned systems and called on Iceland to support the financing of Ukrainian production of shells, long-range drones and other weapons. He also drew attention to the need for a strong international response to the participation of the North Korean military in Russian aggression, as well as to Russia’s use of North Korean and Iranian weapons.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Iceland for supporting Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He stressed that Ukraine’s invitation to join NATO is a key point of Ukraine’s Victory Plan and the only guarantee of lasting peace.
