Kyiv, Ukraine – Kyiv’s nighttime silence was brutally shattered by a series of drone attacks that set off warning lights across the city and left residents clutching at their mobile phones and vital belongings as air raid alarms sounded for more than five hours. The capital’s security was put to the test, and the Kyiv City Military Administration announced via its Telegram channel that all drones that threatened the city had been neutralised. But despite the success, drone debris caused fires and damage in six districts of the capital.
In the middle of the night, after a series of explosions, reports of destruction began to arrive. In Solomianskyi district, windows and facades of buildings were damaged, fortunately without fires. Svyatoshynskyi district reported a fire in a 16-storey residential building, where the fire engulfed 50 square metres of the top floors, forcing the evacuation of 18 people, including a police officer who was injured during the rescue operation.
In Holosiivskyi district, windows of several apartments in a 22-storey building were damaged. Dniprovskyi district faced localised fires on the balconies of apartment buildings, and in Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out between the 3rd and 4th floors of a disused building.
Despite the desperate night defence, the threat did not subside until the morning, and air raid sirens again broke the silence at 10:30 a.m., reminding us of the constant threat. In the Pechersk district, a drone crashed onto the balcony of an eight-storey building, which once again reminded us of the vulnerability of ordinary residential areas in wartime.
These events in Kyiv once again demonstrate the brutality of the conflict, which leaves not only destruction but also deep marks in the hearts of local residents. At the same time, the ability of city services to respond quickly to threats and the indomitable spirit of Kyiv residents demonstrate the will to live despite all the challenges.
