The Israeli Defence Forces conducted a successful operation in the central Gaza Strip, which resulted in the discovery and destruction of an underground facility where the Hamas terrorist organisation was manufacturing weapons. Soldiers of the 5th Brigade of the 252nd Division discovered a tunnel located near the civilian population of Zeitoun.
The discovered facility was equipped as a production workshop: it contained hundreds of materials for the manufacture of rockets, shells, grenades, as well as diving equipment intended for terrorist infiltrations into Israel by sea. The tunnel had several living quarters with the necessary equipment for a long stay: ovens, stoves, food supplies, beds and even offices.
Engineer troops under the leadership of the Southern Command, with the support of the Yahalom Special Forces and the Ministry of Defence’s Engineering and Construction Directorate, successfully neutralised the tunnel, destroyed the production facilities and prevented Hamas from attempting to build up its military capabilities again.
This operation was another confirmation of Israel’s commitment to its security and determination to fight terrorism, using various methods to protect its citizens from external threats.
