Zelenskyy congratulates Maia Sandu on winning presidential election in Moldova

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated Maia Sandu on the successful completion of the presidential election in Moldova. In his message on the social network X, the Head of State expressed support for the European choice of the Moldovan people and readiness for further cooperation to strengthen the partnership between the countries.

“I congratulate Maia Sandu on her victory in the presidential election in Moldova. Ukraine supports the European choice of the people of Moldova and is ready to work together to strengthen our partnership,” Zelenskyy said. He emphasised that voters had made a clear decision, choosing the path to economic growth and social stability.

The President of Ukraine also noted that true security and a peaceful, united Europe can guarantee every person and every family the opportunity to look forward to tomorrow with hope and confidence.

As of the morning of 4 November, the Central Election Commission of Moldova processed 99.5% of the ballots for the second round of elections. Incumbent President Maia Sandu, who ran from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), received 55.25% of the vote. Her rival, Socialist Party candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo, received 44.75% of the vote.

The turnout was 54.30%, which means that about 1.7 million people voted for the president of Moldova, including more than 328,000 people outside the country.

As a reminder, the second round of the Moldovan presidential election was held on 3 November, and Maia Sandu has already announced her victory.
