A horrific incident took place this morning at the Ozuard-la-Ferrière station near Paris when an axe attack broke out on an RER E commuter train. Four people were injured, two of them seriously, a police source said, according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
The clash began at around 8:00 local time (7:00 GMT) between a group of people, including minors, it has been reported. One of the victims lost an arm, and another suffered critical skull injuries. Two other people involved in the incident suffered less serious injuries, the source, who wished to remain anonymous, added.
Due to the fact that the train was at the station at the time, the incident did not affect the movement of trains on the RER E line, which connects Paris with its suburbs in the east-west direction, the state railway company SNCF reported.
The details of the conflict, as well as the motives for the brutal attack, are still under investigation. Law enforcement officers are taking measures to identify all those involved in the incident and the motives that led to this level of violence.
This incident, which occurred on one of the busiest routes in Paris, has once again drawn attention to the issue of safety on public transport in France.
