President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, in which he thanked him for his support of Ukraine, assistance in organising the conference on the fourth point of the Peace Formula, as well as for military support in the form of the NASAMS air defence system. This is reported by TimeUkraineIsrael portal with reference to Zelenskyy s telegram channel.

The success of the Montreal conference and the preparation of the Peace Plan

Prime Minister Trudeau, his team and Canadian organisers contributed to the success of a thematic conference dedicated to the release of captured and deported Ukrainians. The event took place on 30-31 October in Montreal as part of the fourth point of the Peace Formula, which is a key part of Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts. According to Zelenskyy, the next step will be to prepare a final Peace Plan that will summarise the results of all thematic conferences.

Support for the Victory Plan and preparation of the second Peace Summit

On the sidelines of the conference, the Ukrainian delegation presented Trudeau with the Strategic Victory Plan and received his full support. The two leaders also discussed preparations for the second Peace Summit, which is designed to engage the countries of the Global South in supporting Ukraine. This is an important element for further international coalition in support of Ukraine.

Military support: supplying NASAMS and strengthening Ukraine’s defence

Canada has already shipped the first of the promised NASAMS air defence systems, which should arrive in Ukraine by the end of this year. Such assistance is strategically important in the context of the ongoing air threat posed by Russia. Zelenskyy and Trudeau also discussed the overall situation on the frontline, including the involvement of forces from North Korea in the conflict.

Cooperation in the framework of Canada’s G7 presidency

Next year, Canada will chair the Group of Seven, and the parties discussed coordination of actions in this format to expand international support for Ukraine and protect democratic values. They also discussed ways to strengthen sanctions against Russia and economic isolation of the aggressor.

The phone call between Zelenskyy and Trudeau highlighted Canada’s support for the peace process, military assistance and global coordination within the G7. Canada’s NASAMS system, which will soon be delivered to Ukraine, is an important step towards strengthening Ukraine’s air defence and ensuring the safety of civilians.
