Russia is actively using Shahed attack drones for targeted attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in various regions in order to preserve missiles for strategic tasks. This was reported by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defence Council’s Disinformation Countermeasures Centre, on his Telegram channel.
“Russia is using Shakhtys for targeted attacks on energy facilities in the regions to save missiles that it accumulates at strategic aviation airfields,” Kovalenko said. He explained that the limited rate of missile production does not allow Russia to conduct intensive missile attacks, so drones have become an alternative.
According to Kovalenko, Shakedowns are a cheaper, albeit less accurate, weapon that is more suitable for terrorising civilians than destroying strategic facilities. Nevertheless, Russia is actively using them to damage critical infrastructure, causing temporary damage and increasing tensions among the civilian population.
Experts note that this tactic of the Russian Federation may be part of preparations for larger-scale operations, accumulating resources for potential massive missile strikes on critical targets.
