Situation after the attack

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that as of 14:30 local time, all Israeli citizens in Amsterdam have been contacted. It is known that after the football match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam, a group of Israeli fans was attacked. The group of attackers shouted anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli slogans, as well as slogans in support of Palestine. This was reported by TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to Cursorinfo.

According to the Dutch authorities, ten Israeli citizens were injured in the pogrom. Two Israelis were unable to contact their loved ones immediately after the incident, which caused great concern among their relatives. However, it later turned out that all the Israelis who were in Amsterdam had been contacted and their whereabouts were established. The Israeli Foreign Ministry thanked the Dutch authorities for their prompt assistance to the victims.

The role of taxi drivers in the attack

The mayor of Amsterdam noted that taxi drivers could have played an important role in coordinating the attackers’ actions. According to him, taxi drivers provided information about the location of Israeli fans via Telegram and WhatsApp. This allowed radical groups to monitor the movements of Israelis and organise attacks. The mayor’s office condemned the use of messengers and social media to disseminate information to attack Israeli citizens and promised to strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Reaction and subsequent actions of the authorities

The Amsterdam City Hall has announced the launch of an investigation into the possible responsibility of taxi drivers in assisting the attackers. The authorities are considering bringing the drivers to justice for potential complicity in the crime. The Dutch side confirmed its intention to strengthen security measures to protect Israeli citizens and prevent the use of digital platforms to coordinate attacks.

This incident highlights the need to combat the spread of radicalised sentiment on social media and to act more decisively to protect foreign nationals, especially during major sporting events that attract an international audience.
