Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have risen again: 72% higher than last year

Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have reached a new peak, rising again by 72% year-on-year. At the end of last week, wholesale prices for cucumbers ranged from 100-125 UAH per kilogram (USD 2.42-3.02/kg), which is 11% higher than a week ago. This is reported by the agricultural portal EastFruit, citing analysts’ data.

Prices have been rising for five weeks in a row. Analysts attribute this to a seasonal decline in local harvest volumes, with stable demand from retail and wholesale buyers.

“Most large greenhouse plants in Ukraine have already completed the season of selling cucumbers of the last turnover. Currently, the products come only from individual farms, but their quality often leaves much to be desired,” the experts said.

Imports of greenhouse cucumbers are not able to fully cover the demand on the Ukrainian market, making it difficult to stabilise prices in this segment. As a result, Ukrainian greenhouse plants are now selling cucumbers at an average price 72% higher than at the same time last year.

Market operators predict further price increases until new large supplies of imported cucumbers arrive.
