Ukraine is actively moving towards joining key OECD committees, in particular the Committee on Agriculture, which became possible after the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft agreement with the Organisation. In addition to the main committee, the country also aims to join two of its subsidiary bodies, which will undoubtedly be a powerful incentive for the further development of agricultural policy. This was reported by TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
Oksana Osmachko, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, during a meeting with Michal Falenchyk, Acting Head of the OECD Office in Ukraine, stressed that this accession opens up new opportunities for Ukrainian farmers. She stressed the importance of gaining access to international experience and resources that will improve the analytical, scientific and technical foundations of Ukraine’s agricultural policy.
Benefits for farmers and the country’s economy
Integration into these committees will not only improve the investment attractiveness of Ukraine’s agricultural sector, but will also help to conduct joint research, exchange information and implement new projects. This will be an important milestone in the development of international cooperation, particularly in areas related to sustainable agriculture and food systems.
Separately, Oksana Osmachko noted that membership in such bodies will help to promote the reform of the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex, attract new technologies and develop human resources in the agricultural sector through participation in international conferences and training programmes. At the same time, Ukraine will have the opportunity to promote its achievements and share its experience with the international community.
The role of the OECD in agricultural development
The OECD Committee on Agriculture is an important international forum for discussing global agricultural development issues. It actively promotes strategies that help address key issues of food security, sustainable use of resources and adaptation to climate change.
By participating in this committee, Ukraine will have the opportunity to demonstrate its progress in implementing agrarian reforms and to talk about the challenges faced by the Ukrainian agricultural sector, in particular due to the consequences of Russia’s military aggression.
Looking to the future: cooperation with the OECD
According to Oksana Osmachko, Ukraine’s membership in the OECD will not only strengthen its agricultural policy, but also help it reach a new level of international cooperation. An important component is participation in the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems Collaborative Research Programme, which will become a platform for the development of innovations and integration of modern agricultural technologies.
Thus, Ukraine’s integration into OECD committees will provide the agricultural sector with additional opportunities for growth and improvement. Cooperation with the international organisation opens up prospects for the development of science, technology and investment, which will have a positive impact on the sustainability and competitiveness of the country’s agricultural sector.
