On Tuesday, the newly elected candidate for the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said that the European Union would support Ukraine “as long as it takes”. She said this during a hearing in the European Parliament in Brussels, AFP reports.

“We have to keep working every day – today, tomorrow and as long as it takes. And provide Ukraine with as much military, financial and humanitarian assistance as necessary,” Kallas stressed.

Kaja Kallas, who previously served as Prime Minister of Estonia, is known for her tough stance on Russian aggression and actively supports strategic assistance to Ukraine in countering the Russian invasion.

During her speech, she also drew attention to China’s role in supporting Russia. According to Kallas, China should feel a “greater price” for its support of Moscow, as without this assistance, it would be much harder for Russia to continue the war.

“Without China’s support, Russia would not have been able to continue the war with such force. China must also bear its share of responsibility for this,” the diplomat said, as quoted by Reuters.

Known for her consistent pro-Ukrainian stance and firmness on security issues, Kallas’ candidacy is intended to strengthen the EU’s foreign policy amid growing challenges in relations with Russia and China.
