In a public statement, local Thai police announced a possible threat of a terrorist attack against Israelis during one of the largest monthly festivals on the island of Phangan, the Fool Moon Party, which will take place on Friday, 15 November. According to Israel’s Channel 9, it is known that a potential attack could be carried out by terrorists during a major holiday event that attracts thousands of tourists.
In this regard, the local police have stepped up security measures on the island. In particular, checkpoints have been set up on key roads, and law enforcement officers are actively looking for possible criminals. Thai security forces, together with Israeli intelligence agencies, are working to prevent any attacks on Israeli citizens, and have been intensively working to identify potential threats for several months.
Recommendations for Israelis:
Israel’s National Security Staff urged its citizens to be especially careful and follow a number of recommendations to avoid danger while staying in Thailand:
- Avoid public events and places where large groups of Israelis may gather, including popular entertainment venues and meeting places for Israeli tourists.
- Report any attempted attacks or other hostile acts against Israelis or Jewsto local law enforcement authorities.
- Do not display national and religious symbols (such as Israeli or Jewish flags) in public places to reduce risks to your own safety.
- Limit the dissemination of personal information on social media, including where you are and travel plans, to prevent possible threats.
Despite the fact that the warnings are not accompanied by a change in the level of security in Thailand, the authorities strongly recommend that tourists be especially careful.
TimeUkraineIsrael reminds you that this is not the first time that Israelis have been threatened in Thai resorts. The situation remains tense, and tourists should be prepared for any unforeseen events.
