Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga met in Brussels with Kaja Kallas, a candidate for the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who is currently awaiting her official appointment. Sybiga reported this on the social network X.
“I had a great meeting with the candidate for the post of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, during which we discussed the situation on the battlefield, Ukraine’s key defence needs and the results of the US elections. We also focused on the main steps in the context of strengthening political and defence cooperation. I am confident in the EU’s continued strong support for Ukraine,” Sibiga said.
The meeting was another important step in strengthening Ukraine’s diplomatic and security ties with the European Union amid ongoing challenges. The discussion focused on Ukraine’s defence needs and future opportunities for cooperation in the context of the recent US elections.
Currently, the European Parliament is holding hearings on candidates for appointment to positions in the European Commission, including the position of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. After the hearings are completed and successfully approved, the new composition of the European Commission will be finally appointed by a vote in the European Parliament’s plenary session.
