Bluesky, a social network considered to be an alternative to Elon Musk’s X platform, has attracted more than 1.25 million new users over the past week. The total number of users of the platform now stands at 15.2 million, which is significantly less than its competitors – X with 318 million visitors in October and Threads with 275 million monthly users. This was reported by CNBC.

Bluesky attributes the significant increase in the number of users to the search for an alternative to X and Threads. The majority of new users have joined from the US, Canada and the UK. According to Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, “We’re excited to welcome everyone looking for a better social media experience.”

Created in 2019 as an internal Twitter project led by Jack Dorsey, Bluesky operates without advertising and does not yet have its own business model. In 2021, it became a separate company, and in May 2023, Dorsey officially stepped down from the Bluesky board.

Among the users with new accounts on Bluesky, there are those who say they switched to the platform because of Musk’s stance and his support for the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
