From 14 to 22 November, Kyiv will host the international baroque music festival KYIV BAROQUE FEST-2024, which will bring together famous performers from France and Germany, as well as Ukrainian baroque music stars. This was reported by the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
The festival will open with a concert La mystérieuse (Modérément), presented by the superstar of early music, French keyboardist Jean Rondeau. He will play a programme of famous works of the French harpsichord tradition of the 17th and 18th centuries. This is Jean Rondeau’s second visit to Ukraine, following his successful performance in 2015. Back then, he performed sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti on the stage of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, and in France he was awarded the title of “Discovery of the Year” among instrumentalists.
The festival will close on 22 November with a concert performance by Andreas Scholl, one of the world’s most famous countertenors, winner of numerous music awards, including participation in the BBC Proms. His programme Ich habe genug will feature works by Vivaldi, Telemann and Bach. Scholl will perform together with Ukrainian musicians and the Liatoshynskyi Capella: Early Music Ensemble & Choir under the direction of Natalia Khmilevska.
The organisers of the festival – the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Open Opera Ukraine and the National House of Music – believe that Kyiv Baroque Fest will become a new important stage in the cultural life of Ukraine, contributing to the strengthening of ties between Ukrainian and European cultures, as well as the development of international cooperation in the field of music.
Kyiv Baroque Fest promises to become an important event for early music lovers, providing an opportunity to enjoy high-class concerts and discover new horizons in the world of Baroque.
