Several dozen Jewish settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Beit Furik near Shema (Samaria), setting fire to the property and cars of local residents. In addition, both sides exchanged stones, creating an additional threat of violence and injuries. IDF troops arrived at the scene and intervened to prevent further escalation of the conflict and removed the settlers from the village, TimeUkraineIsrael reports citing Vesty.
The incident in Beit Furik and its consequences
The settlers claim that the Palestinians stole their sheep. In return, the Palestinian side accuses the settlers of beating one of the local residents.
Deterioration of the situation in Judea and Samaria
In recent weeks, tensions between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in Judea and Samaria have been on the rise. Unresolved territorial claims and ethnic tensions have contributed to increasing conflict situations, where the IDF has been forced to intervene to separate the parties and prevent more violence.
Attacks on IDF soldiers
However, even soldiers are often attacked by parties to the conflict. For example, on 12 November, a soldier of the rescue brigade was injured by a bottle thrown during the forced eviction of residents of the illegal outpost of Zur Israel near Givat Asaf in the Binyamin district. The soldier sustained moderate injuries when violent protests escalated into riots.
Last week, other settlers attacked two female soldiers near the same outpost, firing tear gas at them. Representatives of the Givat Asaf settlement condemned the violent actions of a small radical group of settlers, stressing the need for dialogue and non-violent conflict resolution.
Attacks on Palestinian property in Al-Birah
Tensions are also being felt in other regions. Recently, 19 Palestinian-owned cars were set on fire in the town of Al-Birah near Ramallah and two houses were damaged. This incident has further increased tensions in the region, raising concerns about possible new escalations.
The escalating confrontation between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in Judea and Samaria requires immediate attention and peacekeeping efforts. The actions of the IDF military in tightening control in the conflict areas are intended to prevent further escalation, but many aspects of the conflict need to be addressed at a higher level.
