Ukraine is preparing to significantly increase the production of attack drones that can operate effectively even in conditions where Russian electronic warfare systems are trying to suppress them. This month, Ukrainian companies are planning to start producing low-cost kamikaze drones that could make a significant difference on the battlefield.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukrainian drone manufacturers are actively ramping up production of automated drones controlled by cheap computers, which are becoming much more affordable for mass production. A special role in this process is played by Skynode minicomputers from Auterion, which are planned to be produced in large quantities and will be used in a new generation of drones. These computers cost about $15 and allow drones to be equipped with autopilot technology that neutralises the effects of EW.

According to experts, these drones are capable of hitting targets with an accuracy of up to 90%, which significantly increases the effectiveness of Ukrainian forces. Compared to traditional drones controlled by human operators, the new drones operate autonomously. They can track and destroy moving targets using a camera and software loaded on a cheap mini-computer.

This technological breakthrough is significant for Ukraine, as the country, with limited resources and a relatively small army, relies on technology to deter a powerful enemy such as the Russian army. Last year, Ukraine increasingly relied on attack drones to compensate for a shortage of artillery ammunition and to counter Russian attacks.

Russian electronic warfare systems attempt to jam signals between the operator and the drone, making only one in five FPV drones effective. However, thanks to the new autopilot technology, Ukrainian drones can operate without constant operator supervision, which significantly increases their success on the battlefield.
