17 November – The indictment in the terrorist attack that took place in Jaffa a month and a half ago reveals previously unknown details of the attackers’ preparations and motives. The Israeli Prosecutor’s Office has charged Ahmad Himoni, one of the terrorists, with involvement in the horrific attack on a light rail tram that killed seven people and injured numerous others. The new facts became known thanks to the investigation materials. This was reported by the TimeUkraineIsrael portal with reference to Cursorinfo.

How the terrorist attack was planned: details of preparation

According to the investigation, Himoni, who entered Israel illegally from Hebron, together with his accomplice Muhammad Masak, planned to organise a terrorist attack in crowded places in Tel Aviv. Initially, the terrorists targeted Bloomfield Stadium, where they intended to commit an attack during a football match. However, after the match was cancelled due to a missile attack from Iran, their plans were adjusted.

Having received no support from the Genin Brigades, they decided to act independently. When they entered Israel, the terrorists carried bags with Hebrew inscriptions containing M16 assault rifles, ammunition and knives. They targeted a high-speed tram in Jaffa.

Chronicle of events: attack on a tram

The terrorist attack began at a high-speed tram station when terrorists armed with assault rifles and knives began shooting indiscriminately and attacking civilians. Among the victims were women, children and the elderly. The attackers were particularly brutal, ignoring the screams of the victims. The attack was stopped by the decisive actions of an armed passerby who neutralised the terrorists. One of the attackers was killed on the spot, and Himoni was arrested.

Terrorists’ motives and ideology

The Israeli prosecutor’s office stressed that the terrorists’ actions were dictated by radical nationalist beliefs. During the interrogation, Himoni stated that if he had an explosive device, he would have used it to attack Jews. This once again underlines the danger of terrorist acts based on radical ideologies that aim to kill innocent people.

The attack was a serious reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism in the region and the need to continuously combat radicalism and extremism.
