President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with the US TV channel Fox News that the reduction of US military aid would significantly complicate Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian aggression.
“If they cut back, I think we will lose. Of course, no matter what, we will stay and fight. We have production, but it is not enough to win. And I think it is not enough to survive, ” Zelensky said.
The President stressed that the US decision was crucial for the fate of the war.
Unity as a key factor
When asked about changes in the war since the beginning of the invasion, Zelenskyy stressed the importance of maintaining unity:
“This moment depends on our unity in Ukraine, and I think it is very dangerous to lose unity in Europe and, more importantly, unity between Ukraine and the United States.”
The President noted that the end of the war theoretically depends on the Russian leader, but the real power to achieve peace lies in the hands of the United States:
“Putin is weaker than the United States of America. The US President has the power, authority and weapons to influence the situation, in particular by reducing energy prices,” Zelenskyy said.
Could Trump influence the war?
Answering a question about Donald Trump’s possible role in resolving the conflict, Zelenskyy said that this is possible if American resources are used to the maximum extent possible:
“It will not be easy, but I think that if we use all the resources that the US has, then yes, it is possible. The US is stronger than Russia. Their economy is stronger.”
Zelenskyy’s remarks once again underscore the crucial role of international assistance in ensuring Ukraine’s defence capability. While Western unity and support for Ukraine remains high, any changes in US policy could have a significant impact on the course of the war and stability in the region.
