Ukraine’s energy system photo: UNSPLASH
On Friday, 22 November, hourly power cuts will be introduced in Ukraine. This is due to damage to energy facilities during a massive Russian missile and drone attack on 17 November. This was announced by Ukrenergo on 21 November.
Schedule of restrictions for 22 November
The power outages will take place from 06:00 to 22:00 according to the following schedule:
- 06:00-07:00 – one turn of outages;
- 07:00-18:00 – two rounds of outages;
- 18:00-22:00 – one round of outages.
Specific addresses of outages can be found on the official resources of the distribution operator in your region.
Reason for the restrictions
According to Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s energy system has suffered serious damage as a result of hostile attacks. Nevertheless, emergency repair works are ongoing, and power engineers are doing everything possible to restore equipment as soon as possible.
“The scope of restrictions may change during the day. Please contact your regional power company for the latest information,” Ukrenergo said.
Consumers in each region are divided into six queues (groups). The number of queues that are in the disconnection mode determines the amount of restrictions:
- Stage 1 – 4 hours without electricity per day;
- 2 queues – 8 hours;
- 3 queues – 12 hours;
- 4 queues – more than 12 hours.
The load distribution during the day is determined by the local distribution operator.
Recommendations for citizens
Ukrenergo calls on citizens to be energy efficient:
- Do not switch on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time after the power supply is restored.
- Check the current schedule on the websites or official pages of regional power distribution companies.
It is also noted that critical infrastructure is not subject to shutdown.
