A large meeting with families of prisoners of war and missing Ukrainian defenders took place in Vinnytsia today. The event, which brought together more than 700 participants, was attended by representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Pension Fund, the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration, the TCC and JV, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing the official Telegram channel of the Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
Important achievements and discussions
The Ombudsperson shared the results of her work in protecting the rights of prisoners of war. Thanks to the team’s efforts, it was possible to organise monitoring visits by the Russian side to places of detention of Ukrainian prisoners in Mordovia. As a confirmation, relatives received letters from their loved ones through the Ombudsperson’s Office. Those released from captivity testify that the conditions of detention improved after such visits.
The issue of repatriation of seriously ill and wounded prisoners of war received special attention. Dmytro Lubinets stressed that Russia has not yet established the mixed medical commissions necessary for the repatriation process.
They also discussed the problems faced by those released from captivity at the rehabilitation stage. The Ombudsman called on relatives and the public to send suggestions to improve the situation.
Support for families and unwavering fight
At the end of the meeting, the Ombudsperson’s Office staff received appeals from the defenders’ relatives. Dmytro Lubinets stressed that the struggle for the release of every prisoner of war will continue until all Ukrainian heroes return home.
This meeting in Vinnytsia was another important step towards supporting the families of prisoners of war and finding ways to release them. The team of the Coordination Headquarters and the Ombudsman’s Office demonstrates effective work, which, albeit gradually, brings the moment of reunification of families with their heroes closer.
