The World Bank has approved an additional $664 million for Ukraine under the Investing in Social Protection for Improved Coverage, Resilience and Efficiency (INSPIRE) project. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine on 28 November.
Of this amount, $602 million will come from the general fund of the State Budget of Ukraine, and $662 million will come from the Trust Fund for the Provision of Necessary Credit Support to Ukraine (ADVANCE Ukraine), supported by the Government of Japan. In addition, a $2 million grant from the World Bank’s Early Learning Partnership Trust Fund is envisaged to support the childcare programme.
The INSPIRE project aims to ensure social protection of the poor and vulnerable population of Ukraine, both during and after the war. One of its key areas of focus is improving access to social services, which is particularly important in times of war and economic crisis.
