The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported that 2,000 North Korean servicemen had joined Russian combat units. In total, there are about 9,000 DPRK servicemen in the Russian army reserve. This was stated by the representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Andriy Chernyak in an interview with Donbas Realiy on 2 December.

“There are currently 2,000 North Korean servicemen in the Russian army’s combat units. They have joined a marine brigade and an airborne division. The rest are in reserve,” Chernyak said.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the North Korean military is taking part in hostilities on the side of Russia, although not all of them are on the front line. They are used to support aggression against Ukraine.

Three generals lead the DPRK contingent in Russia

The GUR also reported that the DPRK military contingent in Russia is commanded by three generals, whose activities are strictly classified.

“They are being hidden as much as possible, placed in closed camps and provided with high security. Special training is underway, but the Russian side is doing everything to conceal their presence,” – Chernyak added.

This information is yet another confirmation of the international nature of Russian aggression, which violates international law and increases challenges to global security.
